Eat Me. Montereys, South Yarra

I must admit, this post is utterily selfish [or should I say shellfish]? It covers two of my favourite things. Chapel Street and seafood.

Montereys is relatively new in town but it wasn't long before I was casting longing glances at it every time I strolled by.

With inspiration drawn straight from the seafood hotspots of America like New England, New Orleans and San Fran, this restaurant is positively bursting with personality. Ropes, anchors and sailing equipment adorn the blue and white walls.

Pull up a booth and order a cocktail - I say you're on holiday!

Once you're settled in it's time to feast your eyes on the menu. Seafood delights are laid out before you with PLENTY of choice. Will you choose the octopus or the ceviche? The prawns or the mussels?

We plumped for some oysters to start, how luxurious. Combined with a cheeky lobster roll, brimming with succulent meat and complete with the most buttery brioche. Yum.

Then, since we've been having an unseasonably chilly and wet start to spring, we went for the seafood chowder which was a total hit. Warm and comforting like a cuddle from your favourite person.

Feeling thoroughly stuffed we glanced at the dessert menu and decided we simply couldn't leave without trying the lime and pisco panacotta. I'm telling you, you've gotta order this. It's delightfully creamy but with a zingy acidity. The perfect combo if you ask me.

Power couple Kelly and Mark run the place and they're nothing but warm and inviting. Expect excellent service and some seriously tasty morsels. You'll find Montereys on Chapel Street down past Prahran Market.
